What is Micropigmentation?

What is Micropigmentation?

Micropigmentation, commonly known as cosmetic tattooing, is the process of inserting coloured pigments beneath the skin’s surface using a digitally-controlled machine, causing a permanent effect.

Cosmetic tattooing has been around for many years, but has recently advanced with innovations in technology and application techniques.

During this program, you will learn to use a state-of-the-art, digitally-controlled Micropigmentation machine to perform the procedure. Micropigmentation Technicians use the machine and specific techniques to create, define, and enhance eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips.

The pigment is deposited within the dermis (second) layer of skin and is considered permanent as the results last typically between 3-5 years. The permanent nature of Micropigmentation allows clients to benefit from the results of their procedure without needing to undergo costly touch ups. After the initial procedure and touch up appointment, many clients will go 3-5 years without needing any further touch ups.

Why Micropigmentation?

There are a number of reasons clients choose Micropigmentation over other current alternatives. It is important for Micropigmentation Technicians to understand these differences and be able to advise clients on the best option for the effect they are trying to achieve.

A few key points about Micropigmentation:

  • Micropigmentation is considered permanent and provides a longer-term solution to Microblading or other forms of semi-permanent makeup.

  • Micropigmentation is typically bolder than Microblading for brows and is a much more effective solution for eyeliner. Clients need to be educated on the differences between the services in order to make an informed decision.

  • Micropigmentation is considered permanent, but will slowly fade over a period of 3-5 years. This means that Micropigmentation provides a long-term solution to clients but may need a touch-up to continue looking fresh.

  • Micropigmentation is extremely effective for clients that are able to have the procedure safely performed. Client candidacy and selection is discussed in detail later in this manual and during the MPTP.
